New Zealand Day 6

Obviously John & Tim won the pool! Twice! They will talk about the night that 2 old english grandads beat the local talent for months! They are now legends in Rotorua!

The weather started off wet but soon became glorious - started in a Maori village looking at thermal pools and old geysers (nothiong new there for us!).

Auditioning for Singing in the Rain.....

This one's called "Grumpy Old Man ", anyone come to mind?

Then we went onto the Sky ride (gondola) and the LUGE! The most fun you can have without snow! We started on the scenic run but loved it so much, we did the advanced run! Hair raising and VERY fast! Left the ground completely at one point, but managed to stay upright.

Route 1, head down and going for it!

Finsished the day with a picnic by Lake Roturua - a bit cold but the sun was shining.
Off to Napier tomorrow.

New Zealand Days 4 & 5

Another long flight with no sleep! Full day still enjoyed in Auckland - much cooler and still sunny. Went up the Skytower for great views and walker miles again -but not in intense heat! Found a local bar for a meal and chill out before an early night!

Next morning up early to head for Roturua, where it is VERY smelly! Pouring with rain all day today, but did we let it stop us - not likely. Tried to view waterfalls but the path had almost as much water running down it as the river!

Found another local bar tonight - The Grumpy Mole! Challenged to a game of pool by 2 local lads who don't know the rules!! Very worrying when John had to play "Rock, paper & scissors" to start the game!

Nearly lost Tim!

See you all soon,

Hong Kong Day 3

An even hotter day today! A bit of rain, but even that was hot! Jumped on a tram (right one for a change!), but got off at the wrong stop! Can't win them all! Long walk in the heat to the Star Ferry for Kowloon.

Walked along Hong Kong's Avenue of the Stars, an interesting list of household names! Caught the ferry back to Central and then back to the hotel to pack for our Auckland flight. We loved Hong Kong but we're ready for the cooler weather of New Zealand.
Tim's Dinner Surprise (spot the raw egg)

Symphony of Lights

Hong Kong Day 2

Another VERY hot day! Up early and tried out the local trams - visted the Peak Tower, fantastic views of Hong Kong. Headed for the tram again -got off at the wrong stop (obviously). Ended up walking miles in intense heat -saw most of Hong Kong on foot!

Found what we thought was the poshest Tourist Information office in Hong Kong. We should have realised our mistake as it was on the 11th floor of a very classy building. We were escorted to the lift like royalty and found the office with leather sofas and 70inch TV. It turned out to be the head office for the Hong Kong tourist board! None the less they were very helpful and helped us book our evening entertainment! They don't get many visitors off the street apparently. We didn't even notice that we were the only people in shorts and T shirts, everyone else was in suits!

Took another tram (by this time we were getting the hang of it, jumping on and off like locals (16p a trip). We hardly stood out at all! Eventually made it back to the hotel at 3.30 and straight in the pool!

6pm we're off again, taxi this time to the port to catch a ferry for dinner and to see the Symphony of Lights.

Brilliant evening so decided to catch another tram back to the hotel. Realised we were yet again on the wrong one! It took us an hour to get back to the hotel! Had to have a cocktail to complete the evening.

Looking forward to tomorrow...........

Hong Kong - Day 1

Arrived safely -31 degrees! Went for a walk to find an authentic Chinese restaurant, We succeeded but could only eat half our meals! Tim particularly enjoyed his raw egg in the middle of his beef meal in a wooden pot! Val was OK until she found the miniature octopus! Now sipping cocktails (Bali Dream) overlooking the harbour waiting for the firework display!

Full day planned for tomorrow = details to follow!
